who we are

The Metro District Education Coalition is a nonprofit, nonpartisan network of financial, legal, and technical experts who provide subject matter expertise on metro districts.
We advocate for best practices in the formation and operations of metro districts and promote improved transparency and accountability on behalf of homeowners.

HOW WE WORK

HOW WE WORK

Of the 2,254 functioning metro districts throughout Colorado, there are daily instan-ces where metro districts are modeling best practices in transparency and accountability.
MDEC is dedicated to sharing these best practices with other metro districts across the state, and also with policy-makers, city staff, homeowners, and real estate brokers.

who we SERVE

HOMEBUYERS

We help people live more affordably in amenity-rich neighborhoods financed by metro districts.

HOMEOWNERS

We promote improved transparency and accountability between residents and metro district boards.

REAL ESTATE

We advise brokers on easy-to-understand disclosures on metro district taxation rates.

Metro District Boards

We share best practices modeled by metro districts across the state.

Policy-makers & municipal staff

We provide subject matter expertise with policy-makers and professional staff for improved decision-making.

BECAUSE OF MDEC:

Each metro district in Colorado is required to have a public-facing website that includes contact information of board members, audited financial statements, boundary information, and other information.
Each metro district must file an annual report to include status of construction of public improvements, audited financial statements, and other transparency measures.
Every registered elector within a metro district must receive notice of upcoming metro district board elections.
Prospective buyers and future residents receive disclosures and notices prior to and throughout the home buying process.
